Veducci Leads Comeback Win over Roxbury

Morris County Football App
Red White & Que Smokehouse
Roxbury, NJ -- Nick Verucci lead the Comeback win over Roxbury as the Parsippany Hills Vikings scored 28
unanswered points in the second half to come from behind to defeat the Roxbury Gaels 28-14 on a hot fall night in Roxbury. Star Senior Quarterback Nick Verducci took over the game as he threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for 1 to help the Vikings improve to 3-0 on the season, The Roxbury Game plan was being execute to perfection in the first half. "We wanted to keep Verducci and the Viking Offense off the field" said Roxbury Head Coach Cosmo LoRusso "he is such a great athlete and he can beat you with the run or pass". The Vikings won the
toss and deferred to the second half. The Gaels took their first possession and marched down the field in the 10 plays down to the Viking 3 yard line. The Gaels solid running attack  ate up a lot of time on the clock while establishing a solid running game behind Michael Roumes,  who carried the ball 15 times in the first half for
97 yards. But a Nick Danna Pass was intercepted on the 3 yard line by sophomore defensive back Dennis Wilson who stepped in front of the route to make a nice interception ended the drive. "I just anticipated
the route he was running and was able to come up with the interception" said Wilson, who is part of a very strong sophomore class for the Vikings. The Gaels defense was strong and allowed Roxbury to win the field position which led to the first score  of the game at 7:11 in the second quarter with a Michael Roumes two yard run
followed by Riley O'Conner kick that put the Gaels up 7-0. Another strong defense stance by Roxbury gave the ball back to the Gaels offense leading to a Evan Vasques 3 yard run with 2:47 remaining in
the second quarter on a 3 yard run and O'Conner kick, giving the Gaels the lead at halftime 14-0. The Viking offense struggled in the first half as Verducci was only 8 of 14 and completed only 1 pass over 10 yards. This left the Vikings short of first downs and no not moving the chains. Bad snaps on punts
and offensive plays added to the first half woes that provided only 15 plays in the first half for Parsippany Hills.

"I just told the team at halftime to trust in each other and in the
system" said Vikings Head Coach Dave Albano "things will open up for
us in the second half".  Indeed that was the case as the Vikings took
their opening drive 9 plays ending with a 23 Yard Touchdown Pass from
Verducci to sophomore Wide Receiver EJ Comeford. The Anthony Memoli
kick was blocked by Michael Sembrat cutting the lead to 14-6.
On the Next Viking possession, it was Verducci connecting with Wilson
on a 23 yard pass with 2:36 that capped a 5 play 8- drive to bring
Parsippany Hills within 2 points at 14-12. Albano opted to go for 2
points and the tie by calling Verducci's number again by rolling him
out to the right with a run or pass option. Verducci opted to run it
in to tie the game 14-14.
Roxbury punted for the first time in the game with 3:44 remaining in
the third quarter and could not seem to establish the long drives of
the first half. They committed their second turnover of the game with
a Roumes fumble which put the ball back in the hand of the hot Viking
Offense. Verducci found Wilson again who made a great catch in the end
zone to put the Vikings in the lead 21-14 following a Anthony Memoli
kick. Verducci capped another strong drive with 2:50 remaining in the
4th quarter on a 1 yard run and Memoli kick to completed the comeback
with the final score of 28-14.

Verducci left the announced 1,181 in attendance shaking their heads
wondering what just happened. Verducci was 22 of 31 passing for 243
Yards in the Air and Rushed for 50 yards on 13 carries. In a day and
age where most players are consumed by the spotlight, Veducci is a
throw back player who plays hard on every play going both ways, on
offense as a quarterback and defense as a safety. Verducci humbly
accepts any praise not for himself, but for the team.

"I cannot do anything without my offensive line and all of my
teammates" said Verducci , "I have such great respect for Coach
LoRusso and the Roxbury Gaels, they are such a tough team and I am
lucky to get to split in the  series with them as we won here my
Freshman year".  Verducci was spreading the ball around to a very
young receiving core made up of mainly sophomores in Comeford and
Wilson.

A very well coached game by veteran Morris County Coaches in Roxbury's
LoRusso and Parsippany Hills Albano, as there were only three
penalties in the game. An encroachment on the Vikings on the first
play of the game and a false start on Roxbury late in the 4th Quarter
with  special teams Penality on a Viking Kick off was the third. The
Gaels were again without Senior Captain Quarterback Donovan Brady who
has been out with a knee injury.

Can the Gaels Contain Verducci

Smokehouse
Roxbury Gameday

Roxbury, NJ--The Parsippany Hills Vikings started the year at the unfriendly confines of West Morris. The 7:30 pm start, the fog, the Crowd , the Wolfpack . But it was the Vikings who set the tone for the season with an explosive 85 Yard Touchdown run by Senior Running Back Wilson Done. The Vikings have kept their foot on the throttle ever since with Victories over West Morris 31-27 and Chatham 41-12.  The Vikings will take their Explosive Offense and Superstar quarterback to Roxbury to face the Gaels. A team that they have not had too much success against since the series began in 2010 posting a 2-5 record.  2014 was the last victory for the Vikings with a 14-7 victory with Freshman Quarterback Nick Verducci as the signal caller. Since then Verducci has played an estimated 2,520 snaps in his great high school career and is looking to take that experience into Roxbury. "I feel like I have been preparing forever to play against Verducci" says Roxbury Head Coach Cosmo Lo Russo. "He is a special player, he can beat you with the run and with the pass" says LoRusso "we have to try to contain him the best we can, our offense is going to win the time of possession".
With so much experience, there is not much Roxbury can throw at Verducci that he has not seen before. The Gaels will have to try to keep him off the field and contain him when he is on the field. This should be another game that geode down to the wire game. Long Time High School Football Fan Will Harrigan predicts Roxbury 17 Parsippany Hills 14.

Roxbury Football Preview 2017

Roxbury Football App
Senior Quarterback Donovan Brady
Roxbury, NJ --Roxbury Football Preview 2017 is presented by the Haunt Hunters App broadcasting live on your smartphone with Speed by Chuck Mound written veteran Morris County Sports reporter Joe Hofmann.

The Roxbury football team returns several pillars from last year's team, so the foundation is in experienced hands. Quarterback? Check. Strong-armed Donovan Brady is back after a solid junior year. Running back? Check. Returnee Michael Roumes can do a little bit of everything out of the backfield. And he is strong in the defensive backfield as well.Linebackers? Check. Michael Christiansen and Connor Mahoney had good seasons last year and are back. Senior leadership in the trenches? Check. Two-way tackle Joe Hills returns on both sides of the ball."We're optimistic because those kids established the early tone," coach Cosmo Lorusso said. "They have a physical presence about them. They're great kids and have experience and they get that experience across to the inexperienced guys."The growth of the younger players will dictate where the Gaels fall in the rugged North Jersey Super Football Conference Freedom Red Division. If some of the newcomers can contribute, Roxbury could well walk away with the title."This year will be a challenge," Lorusso said. "We're not the biggest or the fastest team, but we have a great group of kids who are working very hard and they love to compete. When kids put on a Roxbury uniform, they expect to compete for a conference and state championship and that is what we are striving for."Joining Hills up front will be Vinny Manganella, guards Dante Gibson, Kyle Kaiser and Cole Gibson, and center Patrick Tucker. All but Kaiser are untested."Hills does a tremendous job," Lorusso said. "He's spent a lot of time in the weight room and has gotten stronger, faster and more explosive. We look for him to dominate on both sides of the ball."Christiansen, and Nick Amendola are battling for time at tight end. Speedy Kevin Sembrat and Brian Dachowski will line up at split end. Mahoney, Evan Vasquez, and Riley O'Connor will join Roumes out of the backfield. The Gaels will be back in the pure Delaware Wing-T this fall, an offense Lorusso has run for many of his years as a coach.
"It's deceptive and it's what is best for this team," he said. "We don't have the size to zone block. We have to do it with deception. We'll double-team and we'll have traps and do those kinds of things." Brady had a good year throwing last year and Lorusso is excited to have him back.
"Donovan is a throwback athlete who plays three different sports," Lorusso said. "He's got a strong arm, as strong as any arm you'll see in a quarterback. He can really throw it." On the defense, Matt Cordileone will play nose tackle and will be surrounded by Tucker, Hills, and Manganella up front. Gibson and Nick D'Anna will flank Christiansen and Mahoney at linebacker. The secondary will consist of Sembrat, Anthony Perhacs, Vasquez, Anthony Hayek, Roumes, and O'Connor. If things fall right, the Gaels will be in the mix in the Freedom. Roxbury finished fourth in the six-team league last year.

Sparta Ready for a Roxbury Rumble

Sparta Ready for Roxbury Rumble
Roxbury, NJ --Sparta Ready for a Roxbury Rumble to start the 2015 High School Football Season. Scouting the Sparta Spartans 2015 is presented by the Haunted Scarehouse in Wharton with Two Floors of Fear, when the game is over Head to the Haunt. Powered with Speed by Chuck Mound broadcasting live on the Morris County Football App. The only loss in the 2014 State Championship Season for Sparta Spartans was to the Roxbury Gaels on September 13, 2014 with the score of 24-21. Since that day the Spartans have been untouchable with such wins coming 48-0 over Chatham, 56-0 over High Point, 42-7 over Randolph and a 49-14 over State Sectional Champion Parsippany Hills. You can bet that the 2015 game against the Gaels has been highlighted in the Locker Room since last season. To add more pressure for the Gaels. they are highlighted by every media publication as the team to beat in 2015 with all of the returning players and talent on the team. Sparta Head Coach Frank Marchiano has even used his highlighter. " I think Roxbury is a Top 20 team this season" says Marchiano "we need to go out and try a get the first game at Roxbury."  If your are Roxbury you need to stop reading the highlights and make new ones ad you focus on the Two Time Defending State Champion in Sparta who themselves have a solid Top 20 team and program.

Offense: (The Offense is driven by Jim Salerno GMC of Randolph, buy your next new or used car at Jim Salerno GMC.)  The Sparta Offense will have to replace many key components to their well oiled offensive system. The Big voids that need to be addressed are at Quarterback and Running Back. Junior Running Back Alex Millken (6-0, 188) will look to take over the big shoes left by Lucas Faria, who now plays for Columbia. The Spartans Offensive system has been in place for 4 years now, so the the task for the Gaels defensively is to try to disrupt the machine. Put pressure on the new Quarterback to make mistakes.

Defense:(The Defense is Fueled by Nutrition Zone of Roxbury, providing the Sports Supplements to add 4th Quarter Fuel) You can expect that the Spartans will take their best Defensive Player and directly assign him to Grant Dixon. The will have a defensive plan that will try to take away Dixon's ability to run. This will be a common theme throughout the season. Sparta Senior Dylan May will have to be accounted for on the Defensive Line. "Anything other than a undefeated season is us not fulfilling our full potential" says May.

Roxbury will Host the Sparta Spartans at Roxbury High School on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 7:00 pm on Junior Gaels Night at Roxbury. GPS Directions are provided on the Field of Dreams App powered by Salerno Duane of Denville, get the to game in your new or used car from Salerno Duane.

Delbarton Preview

Presented by Bigtime Magazine
Article by Chuck Anderson

Scouting Report:For the past few seasons, The Delbarton Green Wave and head coach Brian Bowers have stuck to their unique motto, “win this play”.
“This offseason, I really stressed what it means to win this play,” says Bowers. “We have the win the play right in front of us and we need to the things that are right in front of us to have a successful season.”
Offense :Offensively, the Green Wave will stick to what has given them much success in the past. They will feature a Pro-I style offense and will look to dominate in the run game .Carrying the ball will be returning senior running back, Jamie White. White had another stand out season last year as a junior as he averaged nearly 150 yards rushing. White is one of Morris County’s best running back and Delbarton will look to him to be leader for their offensive unit. “He’s played very good for us. Last season he had about 1,600 yards rushing. He’s dynamic and is an explosive kid,” Bower says.Starting at quarterback will be Michael Bicknese. This will be his first year under center as the starter, but Bower believes that Bicknese has the knowledge to run their offense and the  athletic ability to have a great season. Will Reynolds, senior tight end, will look be a force for the Green Wave as well. Reynolds is an athletic tight end that has the ability to not only block opposing defensive linemen, but can really be threat in the passing game as well.
Defense: Delbarton will lean on Niyi Odewade. Odewade is one of the best defensive linemen in the county. “Niyi should have a beast season this year,” says Bowers. “He’s a big, strong guy and he knows how to use his hands to defeat blocks.”
Helping Niyi out at the linebacker position will be Reynolds. Bowers believes that Reynolds can be one of the best linebackers in the county.
Adding to the defense will be newcomer, Joel Johnson. Johnson will be featured at the outside linebacker position and the Green Wave will look to him to step up and play some big time football for them. Bowers, who will be entering into his tenth season as the head coach for Delbarton, believes that he has a special group of guys that are willing to win in 2012. “Last year, we had a great year. We went all the way to the state championship game and lost. This year, we have been working to get better so that we are better prepared,” Says Bowers. When asked about his team and what he expects out of them, Bowers did not talk about winning or losing games, he simply spoke about his team’s character.
“We play in the NJAC conference, a very tough conference and we are going to be tested each week. I believe that if we stick to our motto and win each play, we can compete with anyone.”
Prediction: 8-1
